Blue Run Jousting
Our Horses

Athena is an 8 year old Percheron mare.  At 15.3hh, she is our fiery lead mare and a spirited warhorse.  Athena participated in the Dragon's Lair jousting tournament in 2005 and VARF in 2006 and 2007.  She loves to run and when her rider is wearing armor, she kicks it up a notch.  Athena's pastimes include getting belly scratches and telling the other horses what to do.  She is Mike's main mount.

Trygg is a 10 year old Norwegian Fjord.  While at 13.2 hands, he is considered a pony by size, the Fjord is a draft breed.  Trygg was purchased in September of 2007 and we hope he will make his debut in 2008 as Georgie's leadline pony.  If all goes well, Krissie will also train Trygg to be her back-up jousting mount.  So far, he doesn't seem to be afraid of much.

UPDATE: On October 19, 2007, we humanely euthanized our beloved Phoebe.  Although her noble spirit put up the good fight, her body's ailments finally caught up with her and she began steadily failing throughout the summer.  As our vet gave her little to no chance of surviving the winter and she was in pain and losing her balance, we made the decision to let her go with grace and dignity.  Rest well my sweet girl, we will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Phoebe is our retired Belgian mare.  Rescued at auction in 2001, she was severly underweight and in foal.  Unfortunately, she lost the foal.  However, at the ripe old age of 30ish, she was a steady and reliable warhorse for the 2006 season of VARF.  She really seemed to enjoy her job and always pleased the audience by holding one front hoof in the air signaling her readiness waiting for each pass.  We have had to retire Phoebe this year due to her advanced age and arthritis catching up with her.  But don't try to tell her she's old, she won't believe you!

Loki is a 5 year old Percheron gelding.  A PMU recue from a feedlot in Alberta, Canada when he was just 9 months old, he has more than proven himself worthy of rescue.  The 2007 VARF season was Loki's first show and he did very well.  We look forward to jousting him more in the future.  Loki is a rather lazy boy and would rather nap than run very fast, but at 16.3hh his long legs cover a lot of ground anyway.  Loki is Krissie's main mount and the farm goofball.  His favorite pastimes include flipping the round bale feeders over and dumping the water troughs.  He has also been caught chewing on our son's board book when it was left within his reach...

Josey is a quarterhorse appaloosa cross mare, born in 1996.  She has been Krissie's horse since she was a 3 year old filly in 1999.  Unfortunately, due to an old back injury, Josey has had a lot of time off over the past few years.  However, we hope to have her back under saddle this year.  She may never be a jousting horse, as she is very hot under saddle, but she will always be a part of the family.  Even if she does think she's retired...
