UPDATE: On October 19, 2007, we humanely euthanized our beloved Phoebe. Although her noble spirit put up the good fight, her body's ailments finally caught up with her and she began steadily failing throughout the summer. As our vet gave her little to no chance of surviving the winter and she was in pain and losing her balance, we made the decision to let her go with grace and dignity. Rest well my sweet girl, we will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Phoebe is our retired Belgian mare. Rescued at auction in 2001, she was severly underweight and in foal. Unfortunately, she lost the foal. However, at the ripe old age of 30ish, she was a steady and reliable warhorse for the 2006 season of VARF. She really seemed to enjoy her job and always pleased the audience by holding one front hoof in the air signaling her readiness waiting for each pass. We have had to retire Phoebe this year due to her advanced age and arthritis catching up with her. But don't try to tell her she's old, she won't believe you!
